Comforpedic iQ #UpgradeYourSleep

Sleep is a really personal thing. We don’t get enough. We toss and turn. We fight for covers. We’re too hot or too cold. And, it all takes place in the most personal space we have in our home.

People, in general, also tend to talk about their sleep. How many times have you asked someone how they’re doing only to hear they’re tired?

As someone that works in the hospitality industry, I am always asked how the beds at our hotel are. Are they soft or firm? Will a tall man fit on that king size bed? If I get a different room type, will my bed be any better?

The questions about sleep never end.

For me, sleep stopped being something I enjoyed almost 3 years ago when I was pregnant with my boys. For anyone who has ever done it, you know sleeping with a twin belly is impossible. And, there just came a point where I was only going to sleep in a recliner, which wasn’t really much sleep at all.

When sleeping during pregnancy was over it was on to sleeping in between two babies crying to eat, needing a diaper change, or simply wanting to be close to Mommy. We progressed from that stage in to the worst idea of my life… co-sleeping.

(Sidenote: I’m not against safe co-sleeping, but it was a bad idea for my family. Please don’t hate me for that statement! This is a topic of conversation for another post.)

Until 2 weeks ago, Joanne and I have been sharing our bed with almost 2 year old twins. That’s 4 people, in one bed — two of which have not a care in the world to how well they sleep.

Oh, and I did mention they were still waking several times per night?

I have walked through the last three years more tired than I have ever been. I needed sleep. I craved good sleep. And I have never been so anxious to sleep on my stomach, again.

Just as all this was happening, Condé Nast reached out to bloggers about test driving the new Comforpedic iQ from Simmons Beautyrest.

This was my moment. A new bed to recharge each night AND I’d be serving my sweet, daring two year old boys an eviction notice. They have their own beds, it was time to use them!

One mattress was going to turn my household on it’s head.

The Comforpedic iQ the world’s first and only mattress to combine Ultra Cool™ Memory Foam with the patented Smart Response™ Technology. When combined, these new systems help you fall asleep faster and stay asleep longer.

Hello, rest…. Goodbye, tired!

But, is it really true?

Simmons Beautyrest Comforpedic iQ

Typically I head to bed around 1 AM (I get off work at 11 and need time to unwind) and even though I really am exhausted, I tend to wait for sleep to come. During this time, I’m watching something on Netflix and continually shifting my position to get more comfortable (i.e. I’m stuffing more pillows around me).

When I slept on my Comforpedic iQ, I fell asleep much faster. So much so that I tested falling asleep with and without the TV and have found, I no longer need the TV. This alone makes my sleep much better as I’m no longer waking up at 2 AM to shut off the bright TV that’s keeping me from sleeping.

I laid down, got my in usual comfortable position, and I was out. And yes, I stayed alseep longer. Joanne always gets up with the kids in the morning to let me sleep, but I’m never far behind them. Not the nights on my Comforpedic iQ, I’m hours behind them still sleeping.

In the middle of the night, I throw around my covers or hang my leg out to cool down, but not with my Comforpedic iQ. The Ultra Cool™ system absolutely works well, which is wonderful since I’m a very hot sleeper.

Joanne, who has been a chronic insomniac since I met her 13 years ago, experienced the same result. She was asleep quickly and for the first time in many years, slept the entire night. This is a HUGE change for her, as she is usually awake several times throughout the night and ends up playing on her phone waiting for sleep to come back.

How does the Comforpedic iQ work?

Now, as far as those boys…

Joanne and I decided that the best way to get those boys to sleep in their own bed was to recreate their environment in our bed. This means we lost our pillows to them and have placed them in their own cribs.

It’s working. And while we are still working to eliminate those bottles, well, they’re sleeping through the night, waking up less for a bottle, and Joanne and I are finally getting rest after 3 long years!

Congrats on the rest! I know how amazing it feels to finally get some after not for so long. This sounds like a fantastic mattress! Thanks for the review.

Which model are either of you referring to Erica? What did you buy that you hate and what did this blogger try out? If possible share a bit about your sizes too. That helps a shopper know what just might or might not work. A matt perfect for a slim person may do nothing for a heavyweight and vice versa.

A good mattress is hard to find! We just got a new one after over 10 years of not having a new one. I have not slept this well in YEARS. (Having a baby 3 years ago didn’t help with sleep issues.)

Wow that bed looks dreamy! We recently moved my toddler into a big bed with down comforter just like our because he sleeps so much better in our bed. Worked like a charm,

There are so many different things that can keep us awake at night. That looks like an amazingly comfortable bed.

Sounds like one amazing mattress. I tend to fall asleep quickly due to prescription meds but I can’t stay asleep. Every darned night I’m waking up around 3am. and can’t go back to sleep. It really stinks. Seems I need to look into this mattress brand. Thanks for sharing!

Awe… what I did was tell them that they had to go into their own bed and once the sun comes up they can come snuggle with me. My little one just turned four and every morning she ends up in my bed… I would complain, but I cherish those moments… BTW that bed sounds amazing…

Progress is progress! I’m glad it’s coming along for you. I’m laughing as I type this because my little one is asleep right next to me on my bed, lol. He’s 6. ;) I like our mattress, but we do need a new bed for the guest room. I’d like to get something like this one for us, and put the one we have on a guest bed.

I have had sleep issues since being pregnant with my oldest 4 years ago. I really think it’s because we need to replace our mattress. The thing is 11 years old so I’d say it’s beyond time!

That mattress looks awesome! I sure do love my own memory foam bed. I can’t sleep on any other bed now; because I’ve been so spoiled after trying out memory foam beds!

‘recreating’ the environment of my bed was what finally got my oldest out of our bed when she was 1! now the kids all have comfy mattresses – as they moved out of cribs and toddler beds they got new mattresses, and OUR mattress is caput. I’m looking forward to the day we get a new one!

Having a good mattress is definitely key to getting a good nights rest. We just got a new one and it has made a world of difference. This mattress sounds amazing too!

There is truly nothing like a great night’s sleep! A good mattress is critical, and you sometimes you don’t realize it until you sleep on one finally.

Tell us more of your experience not what Simmons says about the mattress. I think some readers missed the fact that its a Simmons BTW.

Can you sit on the edge and put your shoes on without rolling off?
How has your experience been since you’ve had a little more time on it?
How was its Smell when you got it?

I’m wondering too when it does become cold will these Keep Cool mattress types make one too cold. I nearly froze on a Sleep Number just in the showroom because it did really keep one’s body temp down. Under AC that meant ice cube.

There’s not a lot more to say about the bed than I already have. But, you’ve asked some questions I never thought to address. And my post is completely my experience and nothing was required of me from Simmons. I shared their technology and my experience with it. Just because I mention their features does not mean I’m just a talking piece.

Can you sit on the edge and put your shoes on without rolling off?

Yes, you can. While the initial top layer of the bed is soft, there is firm support under that soft cushion and you will stay in place.

How has your experience been since you’ve had a little more time on it?
Nothing has changed since my original post. I still think it is a great bed with unique technology.

How was its Smell when you got it?
Interesting question! It didn’t smell like anything to me and I did not notice any off gas.

In regard to their cooling technology, I find that it is more a body temp regulation rather than an actual cooling technology. It would seem the point is to keep you from sweating at night, and it does that. However, I don’t believe that it is something that will freeze you, especially come winter.
