Why do first birthdays always have to be so bittersweet. On one hand, there’s a huge milestone to celebrate. On the other, emails from baby companies and websites are welcoming you to toddler-hood. Really? They’re still babies!
It’s been a year since I was pregnant, and I cannot tell you how much I miss it. My little 4 lbs 5 oz and 4 lbs 15 oz babies are now over 25 lbs each. Henry is walking, Oliver crawls at lighning speed.
We made it, a year.
So, while we celebrated the first birthday, we certainly had our huge celebration this past weekend when we stayed at Lake Rudolph while visiting Holiday World in Santa Claus, Indiana.
The Cake Smash
What’s a first birthday without a cake smash?
I was so anxious to see what they’d do with their cakes. At first there was a bit of hesitation to dig in. And to some degree, that stuck with Henry. Not Oliver though.
Oliver had it everywhere. He was covered well beyond where his high-chair tray hit him. He ripped that thing apart, and ate as much as he could of it.
Henry, however, was a bit more conservative in how he went about eating his cake.
When they were all done, a bath was in order. I had to dumb the bath water several times before I felt like they were no longer frosting greasy. And the bath water kept turning blue. That was a sight!
And, then it was on to the presents…
In typical 1 year old fashion, the bags and tissue paper were just as fun as the present itself. But, I actually managed to capture a moment of them paying attention to their toy.
It was a great day. But, I still have a bit of twinge in my heart that my little babies are now 1 year olds.
