I have often blogged about how I feed my boys, and how careful I am with the foods they have. And though we have done baby led weaning with them, and there isn’t a thing that I eat that they don’t also eat, finding to-go snacks for them has sometimes been a challenge.
Because, let’s face it, Cheerios, no matter how delicious, are not always the snack you want.
And we have come up with other snacks as well, but nothing seems to quite fit.
When they first began to eat, it was very easy to purchase pouch foods and take those on the go with us. This was especially helpful when I traveled weekly with them. As time has gone on, they have become completely uninterested in the standard mushy baby food. But my need for the convenience of on the go snacks has not changed.
Recently I came across Yummi Pouch, and I had to try them. My thinking was that if I made something for them, in the style of food they’re used to, I could get them to have “mushy” foods on the go. And, if all else failed, Yummi Pouch would be perfect for taking yogurt, cottage cheese, or pumpkin puree (one of their favs!) on the go.
Anticipating our upcoming trip to Holiday World for the kids’ birthdays, I made homemade apple sauce yesterday to see if this would be a great on the go snack while we spend two days at a theme park.
Not only did my apple sauce come out amazing (post coming, soon), but the boys really enjoyed feeding themselves. There was no mess to clean up, and that told me we’re good for taking pouch snacks on the go and allowing them to feed themselves.
Even more awesome is that the Yummi Pouch holds 6 oz of food, in comparison to prefilled pouch foods in 3.5 oz or 4 oz. This is awesome for my 1 year old guys who need need a bit more than what 4 oz of food will give them!

Yummi Pouch also comes in a couple of different color combinations. I have the Yummi Pouch Brights, but solid white is also available.
Another cool feature of the Yummi Pouch is their label. On the back of each pouch there is space to write the date, and the type of food. This is awesome for making food ahead of time and freezing it. And, because the pouch is reuseable, I used a dry erase marker to date and label the apple sauce Yummi Pouch.
Now that I know Yummi Pouch will work so well for us, it’s my intent to grab a few more packages of them. That makes this label even more handy as I can fill pouches and freeze them for a week or more of on the go snacks, and not have to worry about how long something has been hanging out in the fridge or freeze.
Nice trick, Yummi Pouch.
Using Yummi Pouch
Filling Yummi Pouch was super easy.
I used a tablespoon, and scooped my apple sauce right in. The opening on the top is wide enough to make filling it very easy. But, if you want a smooth, faster way of filling pouches, Yummi Pouch also offers a funnel pitcher.
When I gave the boys their Yummi Pouch to try out, I also used our PouchPop. I like putting these on the end of pouch foods, and the boys are very comfortable with them. The Yummi Pouch website also offers the PouchPop for sale.
I really can’t tell you how excited I am to have these. With as much as we’re on the go, these will be so easy to use to plan ahead and make sure my boys have healthy snack options to hold them over to our next meal.
You can pick up Yummi Pouch on their website for just $12.99 for a set of 4.
